S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Law-inforcement Directorate, or S.H.I.E.L.D., is a top-secret military organisation of spies which enforces peace between the world's nations. It makes its first appearence in Marvel Legends in Chapter 1: The Avengers. Formed in the late 1940s to oppose international terrorism, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been the arch-enemy of HYDRA since their revival in the 1960s. Nick Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
